The Birdman: The Path of the Andean Healer

To the Kichwa tribe of the High Andes, the Birdman is a powerful healer, mediating between heaven and earth. Their vibrant feather crown connects them with the ethereal energy of the birds. You'll soar in the flight path of the Birdman in this in-person weekend workshop with renowned shaman Itzhak Beery.

The Birdman maintains the health and wellbeing of the community. Shamans believe they are intermediaries between the earthly and the spiritual realms. Acting as messengers, they bridge these two worlds and deliver valuable knowledge for holistic healing. That's why the Birdman is adorned with a vibrant-coloured feather crown during ceremonies – it's a way of connecting with the birds' spirit and shapeshifting into them.

Itzhak Beery was initiated as a Birdman in the Yachak–Shaman ancestral tradition of the the Kichwa tribe of the High Andes of Ecuador more than 23 years ago, and wears the feather crown. In this weekend workshop at the College, he will reveal to you this extraordinary path. 

You will explore:

• A small rattle 
• Eye mask / covering 
• 4 white candles (tealights are fine)
• 4 brown or white eggs
• A bouquet of red and white carnations or roses 
• A bunch of branches with green leaves 
• 2 or 3 large pebbles, the size of small oranges
• A square of red fabric for your bandana

Please wear comfortable clothing.
