Kore, the daughter of Demeter, was abducted by Hades, Lord of the Underworld, and carried off to become his bride. In darkness, Kore was forced to become Persephone — the Queen of the Underworld. Persephone's mythology lends insight into the loss of innocence and the pain but often necessity of darkness stealing us away.

Through Persephone's abduction, she is forced to become more purposeful, powerful, and actualized. A part of each of us desires to deepen, and has the potential to rule, our pain, rather than becoming a victim to it.

In this livestream workshop, we will unpack the story of Persephone, including her relationship to Hades and Demeter. We will apply the motifs constellated in these mythic figures to our own lives.

Through this study, you will become familiar with Jungian and post-Jungian mythological interpretation. You will apply these as the theoretical orientation used to explore the archetypal basis of our own attitudes, behaviours, and experiences.

You will also receive additional suggested reading material to give you an opportunity to explore and deepen your learning even further.

This series of independent but interlinked livestream workshops (see below) focuses in on mythical Greek gods and their motifs as they appear in our personal and collective psychological lives.

We will not be recording this workshop. One of the unique aspects of the College's online events is that they are highly interactive. Participants are encouraged to discuss and share with the tutor and the group. These sharings can be very personal, and some may not feel comfortable with them being recorded.

Previous participants say:
