Who Were the Essenes?

Portrayed as a secret brotherhood of enlightened mystics, the Essenes remain obscured by misinformation and speculation. This online talk reveals the truth about this ancient mystical sect.

Prior to the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls in 1948, there was scant information about the ancient reclusive group known as the Essenes that populated Judea during Jesus' time. Consequently, much misinformation has surrounded them. Their true identity continues to be shrouded by speculation that arose between the 17th and 20th centuries.

This online talk examines ancient texts on the Essenes to set the record straight. We'll reimagine this sacred sect, marking fact from fiction. In doing so, we'll get to know the Essenes and their rituals and beliefs on a deeper, more authentic level.
