Embark upon a tour of the past, present and possible future of how we care for the dead in this richly illustrated livestream talk.

The grave started simply with bodies placed in the earth or in protective caves. This has radically evolved over time to include sprawling cemeteries filled with huge mausolea, as well as newer ideas such as human composting that returns the dead to nature.

In this online talk, Allison C. Meier, cemetery tour guide and author of Grave (Bloomsbury, 2023), will reveal the fascinating history of burials. With a focus on the US, she will discuss the evolution of the grave, as well as some of her investigations into the connections between Spiritualism and cemeteries in the 19th century.

Book now to discover the intriguing development of grave, burial and cemetery culture. For those who attend live, there will be time for Q&A at the end of the talk.
