I first trained as an artist on leaving school, but my life took a varied course through becoming a naturopath and a herbalist, to training and working as a dancer and dance teacher, before returning to art education later in life, when I completed my postgraduate training with a Master of Fine Arts degree.
Whilst working as a natural healer, I began receiving commissions from people requesting paintings for healing purposes. Frequently, and without having specifically intended it, my work was sought out by those who were sick, often not expected to recover, who were entranced by the glimpse of that which seemed beyond normal signs and appearances, and who seemed to find solace and inspiration in these paintings.
I was strongly motivated to investigate the source of the images that I was creating. In my work as an abstract painter, I had the strong impression that my paintings embodied a strong psychic energy, and that it was this, not the image as such, that contained the meaning, power and intention of the painting.
Working on the principle that my art might be an expression of psychic vision, I approached The College of Psychic Studies with a view to exploring this dimension of my artistic output, eventually finding my way to Gerrie March's intermediate, and then her advanced mediumship classes. I realised I had been receiving messages from spirit all my life, from early childhood, and although for many years I never developed this faculty, I also knew that someday it would become important. The spirit communicators, I realised, had continued to work through me via my paintings.
I was able to develop a practice that enabled a three-way conversation between myself as medium, the sitter, and the spirit communicator in such a way as to also facilitate the emergence of the image on paper. Setting a clear intention to bring messages of healing and joy to the sitter, I also focus strongly on the appropriate colours to bring forward in the portrait, guided by the spirit communicator, but also by my own psychic intuition. The focus is always to uplift and inspire the client.
